A different St. George story

The princess woke up from her slumber agitated. Today was April 23rd and the nightmares didn't seem to abandon her. She went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and when she returned to her bedroom, she realized that George, her boyfriend, was awake.
-Did you have another nightmare?-He asked when she sat down on the bed.
-Yes, and it's the same as always.-She replied, still a bit shaky from the bad dream.
-You know dragons don't exist, right? And even if they did, they wouldn't be roaming around this town.-He assured her, placing a comforting hand on her back.-Now let's go back to sleep, it's 3 am.
The princess nodded silently and, eventually, she fell asleep again.

Six hours later, she woke up again, this time, it was George's fault: he was shaking her with such force she ended up falling off the bed.
-What are you do...-But she couldn't finish, because George interrupted her.
-The emergency alarm rang, we have to get out of here.-He said in a rush. The princess, without hesitation, put herself up and got ready to leave.
It's not usual to hear the emergency alarm in their town, so when it rings, it means something really important must have happened. And, when they stepped outside of their house and into the street, they immediately saw what it was. A huge dragon was making its way through the town, spreading panic over the whole city, stomping its way to George and the princess.
She was terrified, and completely paralyzed. George, on the other hand, wasn't scared in the slightest: he was already taking out his sword, ready to fight the dragon.
When the dragon was a few meters from them, though, it stopped walking and, surprisingly, it started talking.
-I don't want to hurt anyone. I just want her.-It said, with a strange robotic voice, while pointing at the princess.
-What do you mean?-George demanded, still with his sword out.
-I'm here for her. In order to keep this town safe, she needs to leave it. With me.
-What does she have to do with the safety of this town? She's a normal person!-George argued, growing angrier by second.
-She's not a normal person. She has a gift, George, that not many people have. She can sense danger, see the future, be prepared in any situation before anyone else is... She's like a weapon. One that everyone wants.
-That's... That's what my nightmares were about? They weren't just nightmares, weren't they? They were visions.-The princess finally said, surprised by this information.
-Exactly. And I need to get you out of here as soon as possible, they're coming for you, and they're not good.
-Who are they?-Asked George, unable to process everything that was happening.
-Bad people. People who see you as a weapon, an addition to their power. Trust me, if you come with me, you'll be safe. Your town will be safe.
-Why would she trust you? You're not even a real thing! You're just a...-But, this time, it was the princess time to interrupt him.
-No, George, I'll go.-She said, decided. George turned to her with disbelief on his features.-I'll be alright, and you will too, if you stay here. I need to see if this is true, I think this can help me. I...I saw it, George. Like, with my own eyes, in the nightmares. I always ended up staying on here and the dragon destroyed everything because of my decision. It killed you, George. I could never live with that kind of guilt.
-But, I...-She shook her head, and smiled, placing one of her hand on George's shoulder.
-I will see you soon. I promise.-With that, she said one last goodbye to an astounded George, and climbed on the dragon with its help, never looking back.

Two weeks later, the princess was now living with the dragon, in a surprisingly comfortable cave. She's learned a lot about her gift and she doesn't regret one bit her decision, even though she still misses George.
One day, though, wandering around, she found a beautiful rose laying on the ground next to the cave. She picked it up, and found a note stuck to it. She read it out loud: "Dragons do exist. And even if they seem terrifying, I've learned that they can make a rose bloom from their blood. It took me two weeks to find another dragon and I'm sorry I had to hurt him to make this possible, but here's your rose. I want you to keep it. If you still have it when we see each other again, I promise I will do anything to be by your side. If not, I will still love you forever. Yours sincerely, George."
The princess, with tearful eyes, put the note on her pocket and went back inside with the rose on her hands.
"I might have left you for now, George" she thought "but I'm never going to leave this rose."
